After all of them are stationed at Taitung Zhihang Base in the future, if the existing F-16V Block20s of the Hualien 5th Wing are included, the total number of F-16V fighters in the eastern Huadong region will reach nearly 120. In the face of the military threat from the Chinese Communist Party, the Air Force has simultaneously strengthened the preservation of its combat capabilities. It plans to invest more than 6.87867 billion yuan starting next year to build 26 high-explosion-resistant protective aircraft forts in Hualien and Taitung, gradually implementing the "one aircraft, one warehouse" policy.

According to the Ministry of National Defense's budget for next year, the Air Force plans to implement the "Construction of Protected Hangar Forts" project starting next year. It plans to build 22 protective hangar forts in Hualien and 4 in Taitung, for a total of 26 protective hangar forts. In addition, to meet the parking needs of transport aircraft, five additional simple hangars and ancillary facilities will be built at the Hualien base. The entire project implementation period is from 2027 to 2031.

The Air Force budget plan shows that 65.53 million yuan will be allocated in 2027 for project management, surveying, drilling and preliminary design; detailed design, bidding and awarding will be completed in 2028 and 2029; the main construction period will enter in 2030, and construction, acceptance and completion will be completed in 2031.

The Air Force stated in the budget document that during the defensive operation period, the main fighter aircraft will be dispersed and deployed to Hualien Jiashan and Taitung Shizishan to maintain combat power. Therefore, the number of existing fighters, hangar fort protection capabilities and needs must be re-examined. The new aircraft fortress will be designed with a high anti-explosion coefficient to ensure that when it is suddenly attacked by the enemy or enters the emergency operation stage, it can still retain enough fighter aircraft to continue to perform joint suppression, interception and homeland defense missions.

According to estimates based on public information, the Hualien Fifth Wing currently has about 50 to 60 F-16V Block20 fighters. After the Taitung Seventh Wing receives all 66 F-16V Block70 fighters, the Huadong area will gather 110 to 120 F-16V fighters, becoming one of the most important gathering areas for my country's fighter force.
