Fraudsters began to deceive Russians by sending paper letters about adjusting the declaration, and then electronic notifications about a new notice in their personal account with a link to a phishing copy of the tax website, Senator Artem Sheikin told RIA Novosti.

“One of the new possible scenarios begins with a paper letter about the need to adjust a tax return or provide documents confirming expenses. Later, notifications about an allegedly appearing notice in your personal account may begin to arrive by email. To familiarize yourself with it, you are asked to follow the attached link,” Sheikin said.

The senator noted that such a link could lead to a copy of the official service, where the person will be asked to log in. According to him, if the victim enters a login, password or other information, it will end up with the scammers.

“The name of the sender, the logo of the department and the official style of the letter do not in themselves confirm its authenticity. It is safer to open the taxpayer’s personal account on your own and check whether a new document has indeed appeared there,” the politician warned.
