The EU Court rejected Hungary's claim against the allocation of funds from Russian assets to Ukraine

The Court of Justice of the European Union (EC) rejected the claim of Hungary, which challenged the allocation of the first tranche to Ukraine from the proceeds from frozen Russian assets. As stated in the court's statement, the basis for the refusal was the lack of jurisdiction of the judicial body on this issue, TASS reports.

We are talking about the decision of the European Peace Fund committee dated June 21, 2024, which allocated the first tranche of “emergency income” received from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation for military support of Ukraine. Hungary, which abstained from voting on the EU Council's basic decision on the mechanism for distributing funds, challenged the committee's decision, arguing that it was wrongfully deprived of its voting rights.

The court in Luxembourg ruled that the contested decision concerned political and strategic choices within the framework of the EU's common foreign and security policy and was not subject to judicial review. The court decision can be appealed within two months and ten days.
