Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 8th that construction is in progress ahead of completion of the Baduk-specific stadium in the middle of next month.

The Go-only stadium is being built on the site of the former Defense Security Command in Howon-dong, with one underground floor and four above-ground floors, with a total area of ​​10,000 m2. The current progress rate is around 95%.

Inside the stadium, there will be various game halls, viewing rooms, training rooms, and exhibition rooms, as well as a media room and reception room for game broadcasts.

For the construction of a Go stadium, the Uijeongbu City Corporation is handling the entire project, including construction ordering, supervision, and management planning.

Uijeongbu City plans to make it available for use within the year after consulting with the Korea Baduk Association based on the results of the ongoing Baduk-specific stadium consignment and consignment service.

Once the dedicated stadium is in operation, Uijeongbu City expects that the city's awareness of the sport of baduk, a global cultural content, will increase and cultural and economic exchanges will expand.

An official from Uijeongbu City said, “As domestic and international baduk competitions are held for about 290 days a year, visits by players, their families, and officials will help revitalize the local economy and create new jobs.”

Moreover, Shinhan University, a city university, is expected to create a synergy effect by establishing a 'Baduk Content Department' this year and recruiting new students next year.

The quota for new students is 20, including 19 rolling admissions and 1 regular admission. Shinhan University accepts rolling applications until the 11th.

Shinhan University plans to interpret Baduk from a new perspective and cultivate talent with practical skills to respond to the rapidly changing content industry.
