Collingwood show off soccer skills for second goal

By Michael Doyle

Terrific skill from Collingwood in wet conditions.

A bouncing ball in the Pies forward 50 is kicked off the deck by Darcy Cameron.

It looked like a cross into the box at the FIFA World Cup.

Lachie Schultz takes a low, diving mark and then converts the set shot.

Collingwood by 12.

Tim Membrey kicks the first goal of the match for Collingwood

By Michael Doyle

Collingwood has the first goal of the match.

Nick Daicos had a free at midfield and produced a lovely kick to Jordan De Goey at the top of the 50.

De Goey kicked low and hard to the forward pocket, and TIm Membrey produced an outstanding mark — reaching out with one hand, batting it up to himself, then completing the mark.

Membrey kicks the goal.

Port Adelaide shows off soccer skills of their own

By Michael Doyle

Have these lads been watching the FIFA World Cup?

The soccer skills are on show at the MCG tonight.

A long ball into the Port forward 50 gets over a pack, and bounces for Mitch Georgiades.

The Port goal scorer kicks off the ground, and it curls through the big sticks.

Xavier Bamert kicks Port into the lead

By Michael Doyle

Port Adelaide has kicked two straight goals, and they have their first lead of the night.

Xavier Bamert took a mark inside 50 and converted the set shot.

Give credit to Joe Berry who dropped a mark near the boundary, regathered and kicked sweetly to Jase Burgoyne.

Burgoyne then found Bamert inside forward 50.

Port by 2.

Pies and Power trading behinds

By Michael Doyle

The game has turned into an arm wrestle with three minutes left in the opening term.

There have been five behinds since the last goal was kicked 10 minutes ago, with three of them belonging.

It means Port leads by 3.

Second quarter begins at the MCG

By Michael Doyle

Only once, against West Coast in round 11, have they won.

QT: Port Adelaide 2.5 (17) lead Collingwood 2.2 (14)

Zak Butters kicks early Power goal, push and shove follows

By Michael Doyle

Port Adelaide has made the perfect start.

Zak Butters was held off the ball by Collingwood's Edward Allan inside the forward 50.

Butters goes back and kicks the goal, then Butters goes to Allan for a bit of a shoulder bump.

That has lit a spark in this match as players rush in to a little push and shove.

Carlton's Patrick Cripps on a fifth-straight win for the Blues

By Michael Doyle

Carlton is on a five-match winning run following its 23-point win over GWS.

Cripps had 33 disposals and seven clearances in the win.

"Winning on the road, it's special because you've got the plane trip home to get around each other," he tells Fox Footy.

Carlton should enjoy that plane trip home, they do not have a match outside of Melbourne for the rest of the regular season.

Reflecting on the match, Cripps said he was pleased with how his side played.

He credited Sam Walsh's goal after the siren in the third quarter, when the teams were level on 61, as the turning point.

I thought we started the game really well with our intensity.

I think the biggest moment was at the end of the third quarter when they came (from behind), I thought Walshy's (Sam Walsh) leadership was huge to kick that goal on three-quarter-time.

Then we just steadied and played a really good last quarter.

FT: Carlton 12.16 (88) def. GWS 9.11 (65)

By Michael Doyle

Carlton's AFL resurrection has continued with an impressive win over the GWS Giants, a fifth consecutive victory since Josh Fraser took over as interim coach.

The Blues relinquished a solid lead in the third quarter as GWS kicked four straight goals to level the scores at 61.

But the Blues were too good in the final quarter to secure a 23-point win.

Giants skipper Toby Greene could be in trouble for a last-quarter strike against Blue Nic Newman after he gave away a 50-metre penalty.

Jesse Hogan shanks his chance to get GWS back in the fight

By Michael Doyle

GWS quickly moved from defence to attack, and Jesse Hogan took a great mark over his head.

He has a set shot from in front, 45 metres out, but Hogan shanks the kick.

GWS needed that to potentially stage a late comeback.

Blues by 24.

McKay hits the post trying to ice the game

By Michael Doyle

Harry McKay had a second set shot in as many minutes.

A goal here would win the game, for certain.

But it hits the post.

The Blues still have a big 25-point lead with seven minutes left.

Carlton add harmoncia to sing the club song

By Michael Doyle

AFL debut for Sam Swadling

By Michael Doyle

It is a big night for Collingwood's Sam Swadling who will make his AFL debut tonight.

The 19-year-old was taken by the Pies in the draft last year, pick number 37.

The teenager has played four senior WAFL matches for West Perth, averaging 17.5 disposals.

He was an under-18 All-Australian.

TEAM LISTS: Collingwood vs Port Adelaide

By Michael Doyle

Collingwood has made three changes from the side that was defeated by Melbourne on the King's Birthday.

Steele Sidebottom, Ned Long and Sam Swadling (debut) are in the team.

Scott Pendlebury (managed), Brayden Maynard (shoulder injury) and Angus Anderson (omitted) are out of the team.

Port Adelaide has two changes from the side that was beaten by Sydney last weekend.

Josh Lai and Jack Lukosious are in. Ollie Wines (managed) and Kane Farrell (groin soreness) are out.

Carlton's Cottrell reflects on his strutting celebration

By Michael Doyle

One of the highlights of the match was Matthew Cottrell's first goal for the Blues.

The goal was very good, but the celebration was eye-catching for its simplicity — it was just a confident strut.

Cottrell has spoken to Fox Footy post-match, and says he was as surprised as anyone with his celebration.

"I probably surprised myself kicking that one," he says.

"I didn't have anything to go to, so I just forgot to celebrate, I guess."
