China's Communist Party theoretical journal has issued a warning, fearing damage to the country's image as so-called 'pseudo-history' content mass-produced using artificial intelligence (AI) spreads indiscriminately.

According to Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 7th, the Chinese Communist Party's theoretical journal Chushi criticized that extreme pseudo-historical claims online are spreading overseas and damaging China's right to academic discourse and cultural image.

Examples mentioned in Chus include the claim that the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle was a fabricated figure and the claim that Mount Emei in Sichuan Province, China, is an Alps mountain range.

There is also an argument that the West stole the contents of the 'Daejeon of Yongle', an encyclopedia compiled during the reign of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty, and created achievements of the Industrial Revolution, such as calculus and the steam engine.

In recent years, movements to overcome the Western-centered view of history have expanded in China, and the authorities have also emphasized that Chinese civilization has continued for a long time.

Amid this movement, so-called 'pseudohistory', which questions the origins of Western culture or claims that major scientific developments were achieved in China, became popular.

Chus pointed out that some pseudo-histories have national separatist tendencies and may provide a theoretical basis for denying the unity of the Chinese nation.

A representative argument was the view of judging the legitimacy of a dynasty based on the ethnic origin of the ruler.

This claim, which is in line with 'Han nationalism', which views the Qing Dynasty founded by the Manchurian people as an invasion and colonial regime, runs counter to the Chinese Communist Party's official view of history, which is that it inherited sovereignty over Xinjiang, Tibet, and Taiwan by succeeding the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Chus also took issue with the mass production of such content using generative AI, emphasizing that “the algorithm should not be allowed to become a megaphone for these narratives.”
