Alcohol ban at other German train stations comes into force

As of today, alcohol is no longer allowed to be drunk at four additional German train stations: at Berlin Central Station, Berlin Gesundbrunnen as well as in Kiel and Braunschweig. With the gradual expansion of the alcohol ban at Deutsche Bahn train stations, the company wants to ensure more safety. The railway is making use of its house rules.

According to the railway, violators of the ban will result in expulsion, and repeat offenses could result in a ban from the premises.

Palla relies on good experiences

Even before the corresponding announcement at the end of July, an alcohol ban was in effect at more than 30 stations across Germany, including the main train stations in Hamburg, Dortmund and Frankfurt. It will then apply at all train stations from October 15th. The group hopes that the expansion will, among other things, provide greater safety for passengers and employees and cleaner stations.

“We are taking action: we are banning alcohol drinking from our train stations,” railway boss Evelyn Palla announced at the end of July. It has been found too often that as alcohol consumption increases, violence also increases.

Purchasing of alcohol is still possible

The ban only affects the consumption of alcohol in the train stations - purchasing it is still possible, according to the company. Alcohol can still be consumed in the restaurants within the station. In addition, there are currently no plans to introduce a general ban on alcohol consumption on long-distance trains, the railway said.

In the on-board bistro and generally on board long-distance trains, alcohol is served as part of a gastronomic offer - comparable to the situation in a restaurant, it was said.
