Ho Chi Minh City Model and actress Andrea Aybar Carmona, also known as Nguyen Thi An, or An Tay, admitted to the behavior as stated in the indictment, repeatedly asking her assistant to buy drugs for her to use.
On August 20, the trial of 227 defendants in the VN10 case, related to the case of 4 female flight attendants who were used to illegally transport drugs from France to Vietnam, continued with the questioning.
In this case, An Tay was prosecuted for two crimes: Organizing illegal use and possession of narcotics. The drugs used by the defendant and his group were determined to originate from a branch of the VN10 network.
Responding to questioning, An Tay said he had no opinion on the content of the indictment. The drugs used by the defendant were bought by assistant Van Anh Duy. Duy asked for joint use and the defendant agreed.
Regarding evidence, An Tay claimed that a phone was confiscated but said that this phone was not related to the crime.
The case file shows that during the investigation, An Tay declared that she had used drugs since around 2020. The beauty repeatedly bought meth from Nguyen Phuoc Bao Loc to use at home, each time from 500,000 VND to 2 million VND.
Initially, An Tay directly contacted Loc to order. Later, she mainly asked her assistant Van Anh Duy to contact Loc, receive the drugs and bring them back. She transferred the money to buy drugs to Duy's bank account, who transferred it back to Loc.
On November 8, 2024, An Tay asked Duy to buy 1 million dong of meth to use together. About two hours later, Duy brought drugs to her apartment. Two people use the tools An Tay keeps in the bedroom alternately. Duy left around 11pm, and An Tay continued to use it alone.
In addition to meth, records show that An Tay declared that on November 2, 2024, he discovered in the rented apartment a nylon bag containing a packet of Ketamine and two packets of the drug "happy water". She thought that the drugs might have been left by a guest at the house, so she gave it to Dong because she didn't use it herself.
As for marijuana, An Tay declared that he bought 800,000 VND from a person named "Kim", used most of it, and the rest was confiscated during the search. She also testified that she asked Duy to order and store equipment for drug use.
As for Van Anh Duy, the defendant admitted to being An Tay's assistant and was involved in buying and storing drug paraphernalia at An Tay's request.
As a drug seller for An Tay, Loc also admitted his crime. During the investigation, Loc declared that around the beginning of 2024, An Tay asked him to find someone to sell meth. Loc then contacted a person named Ngoc (who met on Bui Vien walking street) to buy 500,000 dong of drugs to give to An Tay. The next time, Loc bought about 800,000 VND from Ngoc and then sold it to An Tay for 1 million VND, earning 200,000 VND each time.
The 'Charity Fairy' declared that she used drugs due to emotional sadness
Responding to the jury earlier, Nguyen Do Truc Phuong (also known as the "Charity Fairy") declared that the indictment accurately described his crime. The indictment prosecuting the defendant for organizing the illegal use of drugs is not unjust.
Phuong said that the first time she used drugs in 2021, out of curiosity, she bought it to use alone. After that, realizing that it was not suitable for her health, Phuong stopped using it.
By 2024, due to emotional sadness and work pressure, the defendant had the idea of buying drugs to use alone. On March 14, 2024, the defendant contacted Pham Van Duy Bao to buy "happy water" and ketamine.
On March 16, the defendant texted and invited friends to his home in the old An Phu ward, celebrated a birthday for a friend in the group, and used drugs. The party started around 1pm, everyone drank a lot of alcohol and inhaled balloons. Phuong claimed that after that, he was too drunk to remember what happened.
The defendant said four people used drugs on March 16, but did not remember the amount used. When the police checked, the people present were just inhaling balloons, no drugs.
Regarding Vu Hai Anh, Phuong declared that he was her boyfriend and usually only came to the defendant's house on weekends or when asked to pick up his children. Phuong did not know whether Hai Anh went to the party area and used drugs or not.
During questioning later, Vu Hai Anh said that the indictment described his behavior incorrectly.
Defendant Hai Anh testified that after taking Truc Phuong's child home, the defendant cooked rice for the child to eat. Around 9-10 p.m., Hai Anh left her child with the nanny and then went downstairs to join the party with Truc Phuong's group of friends.
Because he did not know these people, the defendant only drank alcohol, inhaled balloons for a while, then went to his room to sleep until about 5 a.m. the next morning. Hai Anh affirmed that he did not know about other statements related to him.
Previously, other defendants in many branches of the drug ring all admitted their actions stated in the indictment. The trial continued with the questioning of the remaining defendants; expected to last until September 19.
In addition to Andrea Aybar and Truc Phuong, the process of expanding the investigation of the agents in the ring, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police (PC04) also temporarily detained Nguyen Trung Hieu (singer Chi Dan) and his brother Nguyen Trung Tin, 45 years old, on charges of organizing illegal use of drugs.
From the case of 4 flight attendants carrying drugs from France to Vietnam in March 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Police destroyed the largest transnational network in history - named Project VN10. Within the scope of the case being tried, the prosecution agency identified Ha Danh Nam (fugitive, living abroad) and Hoang Sy Thang as the leaders. Flight attendants were taken advantage of to transport more than 11 kg of drugs hidden in toothpaste tubes without knowing there were banned substances inside.
Authorities have proven that the amount of drug transactions amounted to nearly 29,000 billion VND; Cut off nearly 500 branches and branches of the crime ring operating in 34 provinces and cities, "opening" each of the bosses' covers to collect nearly 600 kg of drugs, 12 guns, 67 bullets, and 3 grenades.
