Apple CEO Tim Cook handed over his position to John Ternus

Tim Cook's 15-year tenure at US-based technology giant Apple has ended. Cook, 65, who has been managing the company since 2011, handed over his position as CEO to John Ternus, senior vice president of hardware engineering who has been working at Apple for 25 years.

Cook took over as CEO after Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs and led the US technology giant. In the new period, he will serve as the chief executive officer and will continue to manage the company's relations with politicians and decision-makers around the world. While the company was entering new product categories such as Apple Watch, AirPods and Vision Pro during Cook's term, it switched to Apple Silicon chips that it designed itself. In his farewell message, Cook described his 15 years at Apple as "the greatest privilege of his life" and praised Ternus, saying, "Very few people understand as much as he does what it takes to develop world-changing products."

TERNUS' FIRST EXAM

Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and led the hardware teams behind the iPhone, iPad and Mac. One of the most important challenges for Ternus, who took the CEO seat with his experience in the hardware field, will be to bring Apple forward in the field of artificial intelligence. Ternus is expected to manage the launch event on September 9 and introduce Apple's first foldable iPhone. Describing the task as "a great honor", Ternus stated that he spent almost his entire career at Apple and also said that he had the chance to work with Steve Jobs and benefit from Cook's mentorship.
