Why It Matters
Austin police are investigating a series of at least 10 shootings that occurred over the weekend, resulting in four injuries. Two suspects have been apprehended, but one remains at large.
Police are still hunting for one suspect involved in at least 10 shootings in Austin, Texas, over the weekend.
At least four people have been shot, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said Sunday. One of the victims sustained a “serious injury,” while the other three have minor injuries.
Two suspects are now in custody, while one “remains at large,” the Austin Police Department said in a Sunday afternoon update. The agency also lifted a shelter-in-place order for South Austin that was put into effect earlier Sunday.
The shootings, which took place late Saturday and Sunday, appear to be “random“ with “no specific motive,” according to Davis. She described two of the suspects as males in their late teens.
Davis said the suspects have used several different cars, including a black or dark blue Hyundai, a gold Hyundai sedan, a silver Mazda four-door and a white Kia Optima.
“I want to remind people, do not leave their cars unlocked. What we are seeing are these cars are being stolen. Do not leave your keys in the vehicle or your key fobs in the vehicle,” she said.
At least two of the shootings took place at Austin Fire Department stations, Mayor Kirk Watson said.
