Switch of ends for Spencer Johnson (1-0-22-0). He replaces Nathan Ellis. Oh! Hang on. Brief hold-up in play as the sightscreen runs into a technical issue, which is being fixed by the groundstaff. Looks like the issue is solved and we are all set to resume.

2/26 in the first T20I, and a wicket off his first over in the second. Renshaw continues to make an impact with the ball as well and he cannot do anything wrong today. In walks Soumya Sarkar at number 3.

Matt Renshaw to Tanzid Hasan, OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! A soft dismissal in the end for Tanzid Hasan. First with the bat, and now Matt Renshaw does it with the ball as well. Fired in, on off, Tanzid Hasan leans on and looks to drive it straight, but gets in two minds whether to play along the ground, or to loft it over the bowler. Ends up chipping the ball off the toe end. It carries straight back towards Matt Renshaw, who makes no mistake and takes a fine return catch in front of his face. Bangladesh are 48/1 after 3.4 overs.

Overs2.5

Score41 - 0

Nathan Ellis to Tanzid Hasan, Full and straight, Tanzid Hasan flicks it to mid-wicket for a brace. The fielder throws it towards the keeper who whips the bails off but Tanzid Hasan was in. Excellent running between the wickets.

Nathan Ellis to Saif Hassan, Well-bowled. Hard length and outside off, Saif Hassan plants the front leg across, sits down on a knee, and looks to paddle it behind, but misses to connect and the ball hits his pads and rolls towards square leg. A stifled appeal for LBW, which is turned down. The impact seemed to be outside off. Marsh double checks with the keeper and the bowler and there's no confidence from either of them, so they don't take a review. The batters collect a leg bye. The replay later shows that the impact indeed is outside off.

Overs1.6

Score33 - 0

Spencer Johnson to Saif Hassan, SIX! Bangladesh are off to a flier here! Short and wide, Saif Hassan moves forward and slaps it magnificently over deep cover for a flat six. A handsome stroke from Saif as the hosts are up and about.

Spencer Johnson to Saif Hassan, FIVE WIDES! Goodness me. It has all gone wrong for Spencer. Bonus runs for Bangladesh! Down the leg side, Saif Hassan looks to flick it but misses. The keeper, Josh Inglis, dives to his left, but fails to collect as it stays out of his reach and it races away to the fence at fine leg.

Spencer Johnson to Tanzid Hasan, SIX! Up and over! All class from Tanzid. Spencer Johnson goes full, and on off, Tanzid Hasan takes a step forward and launches it over long on for a six.

We are back for the run chase! The umpires are back out in the middle and so are the players of Australia. It will be the duo of Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan to open the innings for Bangladesh. Aaron Hardie will get things underway with the ball. Let's go...

Bangladesh need a big Powerplay - Having asked to bowl first, Bangladesh did well to pick up early wickets and Nasum Ahmed was prolific for them in the Powerplay. However, the pacers in the middle overs bowled too many loose deliveries and went for plenty of runs, especially Abdul Saqlain, who conceded more than 50 runs. They pulled things back around the 15th over mark, but gave away crucial momentum right at the end. Righto, Bangladesh need 197 runs to win, and for that they will have to beat the highest ever T20I chase at this venue as well. It should be a fascinating second innings, so stay tuned.

Let's now hear from Australia's power-hitter - Tim David says that he enjoyed his time in the middle though Matt did all the hard work. He adds that the ball keeps a bit low and he says that it is hard to say if this is a different pitch than that of Mirpur, as he didn't play any games there. Ends by saying that this is an important game and they will try and win this series.

Middle overs mastery - Australia didn't quite start off positively with the bat and were 44/3 at the end of the Powerplay. This is when Tim David and Matt Renshaw got together and they added 97 runs in the next 50 deliveries, with David being the aggressor. Renshaw showed composure at one end as the Aussies lost their way a bit after David's wicket. Renshaw then chanced his arm at the death and mustered up plenty of boundaries to end on an unbeaten 89, almost taking his side to over 200 runs as well.

Big runs on the board - Australia pile on 196 runs on the board, a complete contrast to what Bangladesh did in the previous game, on this very ground. Matt Renshaw has been the standout with the bat and he's managed to hand the Aussies the momentum heading into the interval.

Overs19.6

Score196 - 5

Mustafizur Rahman to Joel Davies, A superb finish by the tourists. Australia post 196/5 on the board! Slower bouncer on the stumps. Joel Davies stands tall and drags it across to the deep mid-wicket region. They look for the second, but will have to settle for a single only. 18 runs off the last over. Could be a big difference maker.

Overs19.5

Score195 - 5

Mustafizur Rahman to Joel Davies, SIX! Dumped beyond the ropes! This is turning out to be a massive final over for the Aussies. A full toss with a hint of a reverse on the stumps. Joel Davies picks up and whips it over the deep backward square leg fence for a six. The umpires check whether the ball bounced before the ropes, but the replay shows that it has cleared sailed over. 17 runs already, with a ball to go.

Overs19.1

Score184 - 5

Mustafizur Rahman to Matt Renshaw, SIX! BLUDGEONED! This is the off cutter by The Fizz, on a good length. Matt Renshaw clears the front leg and plunders it over long on for a cracking six.

Overs18.6

Score178 - 5

Nahid Rana to Matt Renshaw, DROPPED! Nasum is the guilty party. Wide full toss, and it keeps curving away from the left-hander. Matt Renshaw slashes hard at it to pick the bones out of it. Only manages a thick outside edge and slices it to the left of short third. Nasum Ahmed is a bit late to dive and puts it down. The ball rolls behind him and he takes his sweet time to get up and chase it. Only a single though. Nahid Rana lets out a huge grunt in frustration and lets the fielder be known about it.

4

Overs18.5

Score177 - 5

Nahid Rana to Matt Renshaw, FOUR! Innovative and mighty effective! Pitched short and outside leg. Matt Renshaw moves across the stumps and this time, he spots the slower one at the time of release and has enough time to scoop it over short fine leg for a boundary.

A few droplets of rain have now started to fall. Hopefully, it doesn't get heavier, for now the play will continue.

Open Questions

  • Will Bangladesh successfully chase the record target?
  • Can the Bangladesh bowlers restrict Australia further?
  • How will the rain affect the match?
