BHOPAL: A Bhopal court on Tuesday extended the judicial custody of model Twisha Sharma's husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, former judge Giribala Singh, by 14 days in connection with Twisha's death and an alleged dowry harassment case.

Ankur Pandey, counsel for Twisha Sharma's family, told PTI that both accused attended the hearing virtually before Judge Shobhana Bhalave's court.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought an extension of their judicial custody until June 30, a request that was granted by the court.

Both accused remain lodged in Bhopal Central Jail.

Twisha was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12.

Following allegations of irregularities in the initial probe, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation.

Earlier, on June 2, the court had remanded both accused to 14 days of judicial custody, which was set to expire on June 16.

Twisha's first post-mortem report said her death was caused due to "antemortem hanging by ligature" and her body bore "multiple antemortem injuries (simple in nature possible by blunt force over other parts of the body have been noted)".

Police registered an FIR on May 15 after receiving the post-mortem report and recording statements from the family members of former actor-model Twisha Sharma.

According to the FIR, Twisha's family alleged that she had been subjected to harassment by her in-laws, who were reportedly dissatisfied with the dowry provided at the time of her marriage on December 9, 2025.

They had accused her in-laws of mental torture and domestic violence, and pushing the 33-year-old to take the extreme step.

According to the statement recorded by police while registering the FIR, Twisha had spoken to her mother over the phone at around 9:41 pm on the day of the incident.

The family alleged that during the call, her husband could be heard shouting in the background before the conversation was abruptly disconnected.

The FIR further states that after several unsuccessful attempts to reconnect, Giribala Singh answered the phone and allegedly informed Twisha's sister-in-law that "she is no more" before disconnecting the call.(With agency inputs)
