Brothers reunited after 35 years during voter-list verification in Jind

CHANDIGARH: A routine voter-list verification under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls led to the reunion of two brothers in Jind district who had been separated for nearly 35 years. The reunion took place at Govt Senior Secondary School in Manoharpur when Sita Ram visited to collect his school-leaving certificate. During verification, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) asked about his village, father’s name and family details. When Sita Ram mentioned his brother, Dalbir Singh, the BLO called him to verify the details. On hearing Sita Ram’s name, Dalbir immediately recognised him. “Yes, he is my brother. I have been searching for him for the last 35 years,” he reportedly told the BLO before rushing to the school. The brothers embraced and broke down on meeting after decades, leaving those present emotional. Additional assistant electoral registration officer Dr Ramesh Kumar, who witnessed the reunion, said the incident showed how a routine administrative exercise could sometimes reconnect families. The BLO’s decision to make a call after hearing the brother’s name proved crucial. For Sita Ram and Dalbir, the SIR exercise became an unexpected bridge after 35 years of separation.
