Former opposition activist of the Polish People's Republic Piotr Niemczyk detained for refusing to perform community service

Onet was the first to report the arrest of former opposition activist during the Polish People's Republic, Piotr Niemczyk. Journalists unofficially found out that the man was detained on Tuesday morning and taken to jail, where he will spend 15 days. The portal's reports were confirmed by Polsat News in an interview with the spokeswoman of the Director General of the Prison Service, Lt. Col. Arleta Pęconek. Piotr Niemczyk is currently staying in one of the penitentiary units, she said.

Protest of the Last Generation in Warsaw

According to the media, the case is related to Niemczyk's involvement in a protest organized by climate activists from the Last Generation group. We are talking about the events of May 25, 2025 in Warsaw.

The court imposed a penalty of restriction of liberty in the form of community service against 26 people. He argued this by blocking traffic and resisting the police. This group included Piotr Niemczyk and Paweł Kasprzak.

Appeal of former political prisoners to Minister Żurek

It was found that both of them refused to perform community service, therefore the court changed the sentence to 15 days of detention. It was established that Kasprzyk had already served his sentence, while Niemczyk was arrested on Tuesday.
