Carlton Interim Coach Josh Fraser Seeks Full-Time Role After Winning Run

Carlton caretaker Josh Fraser wants the full-time coaching job.

Fraser has told Carlton hierarchy he is keen to become the permanent head coach after his stunning success as interim boss.

The former Collingwood ruckman has won 10 of 12 games since the departure of Michael Voss and is now among five candidates for the permanent job.

Fraser, 44, initially said he wasn't interested in being the full-time coach from next season.

But he has changed his mind after his blistering start to coaching, and now appears the frontrunner in a field of five.

Fremantle's Jaymie Graham, St Kilda's Corey Enright, Geelong's James Kelly — all current assistant coaches — have interviewed for the role, along with Hawthorn's head of development Daniel Giansiracusa.

Fraser's about-turn comes as he revives the on-field fortunes of the Blues, who were languishing with one win and eight losses when Voss departed in mid-May.

Carlton appears set for a wildcard finals berth, sitting 10th on the ladder and two wins clear of 11th-placed St Kilda with two rounds remaining.

The Blues meet the Western Bulldogs on Sunday before their last home-and-away game against ladder-leaders Fremantle.

Fraser, who played 200 games with Collingwood and 18 at Gold Coast, began his coaching career as coach of the Suns' state league side.

He then coached Carlton and Collingwood at VFL level before returning to the Blues as an assistant to Voss this season.

Two weeks ago, Carlton's football boss Chris Davies said the club wanted Fraser to apply for the full-time role.

"We think he should put his hand up," Davies said at the time.

Since those comments, Fraser has overseen a 76-point thrashing of reigning premiers Brisbane and a 44-point victory over the Saints.
