China and Panama Navigate Rift Over Panama Canal Port Operation
Beijing Seeks to Deepen Cooperation Amid US Pressure
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reiterated the country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Panama, emphasizing that their bilateral relationship should not be influenced by third parties. This stance comes amidst a lingering dispute over the operation of ports in the Panama Canal, which has attracted pressure from the United States. Wang expressed China’s willingness to work with Panama to eliminate external interference and promote stable development of their diplomatic relations, established in 2017.
