Fire at shipyard in China: 20 dead

According to the statement made by the local administration, the accident occurred at a shipyard in Qingdao city of Shandong province. A fire broke out on a foreign cargo ship at around 11.15 local time while maintenance work was being carried out.

THERE WERE 42 PEOPLE

While 12 of the 42 people on the ship were evacuated safely, 5 injured people were taken to hospital. It was reported that the health conditions of the injured who were treated at the hospital were stable.

20 LIFE BODY WERE FOUND

The flames were brought under control and extinguished around 14.30 local time with the intervention of the teams. During the search and rescue efforts initiated after the fire, the dead bodies of 20 of the 25 people who were initially reported missing were found. It was reported that the search for the remaining 5 missing people was continuing as of 17.30 local time.

It was stated that following the incident, emergency management, fire brigade, police and medical teams were dispatched to the region to carry out search and rescue operations.
