Kamikaze driver causes serious accident on the AP-7 after fleeing from the Mossos

A kamikaze driver who was fleeing from the Mossos d'Esquadra in the wrong direction on the AP-7, after allegedly having committed a robbery with force in a home in the Village, caused a serious accident this Saturday by colliding head-on with two vehicles that were traveling correctly in the direction of Barcelona.

The terrible collision occurred at four in the afternoon near Papiol, leaving nine people injured, one in critical condition who had to be evacuated by medical helicopter to the Parc Taulí hospital in Sabadell. The road remained closed for more than three hours due to the work of the emergency services and the removal of the damaged vehicles.

The suspect, who was in his vehicle accompanied by two other people, was fleeing from the police on the B-23, from Vilafranca del Penedès, after linking the occupants with a robbery that had occurred in a home in the municipality of La Aldea, as explained by TV3 and confirmed by this newspaper.

The fugitive was traveling at high speed on the highway and recklessly, making dangerous overtakes and putting the rest of the cars on the road at risk.

At the height of Papiol, the driver tried to enter the highway to mislead the police vehicles, but he turned in and drove in the opposite direction to the road. The collision was inevitable and practically instantaneous, against two vehicles that were traveling correctly. The driver and two other occupants of another car involved were trapped and had to be rescued by the Generalitat Firefighters release team.

Once released, the driver was taken to a hospital and detained, charged with the crimes of attempted homicide, in addition to others related to road safety.

His two companions managed to get out of the car and flee. One was detained in a nearby wooded area and the third remained at large and was being sought at the time of going to press. The police helicopter and citizen security patrols were combing the surroundings while there was light.

The rescue work and the road blockade caused kilometer-long queues throughout the afternoon.
