Ten soldiers in Ceuta infected with scabies, according to Defense

Around a dozen soldiers from the contingent deployed to Ceuta to support the security forces have been infected with scabies, as Defense sources have confirmed to the Efe agency, who have indicated that the cases do not have to be related to the migration crisis.

The Association of Spanish Troops and Sailors (ATME) had already warned in a statement of the possible appearance of cases of contagious diseases, "probably scabies", among soldiers deployed in the autonomous city, for which it had requested "precise" information from the Ministry of Defense in this regard.

According to the information received by this association, "some soldiers have expressed concern about the possible presence of this infectious disease, which has raised doubts about the existence of isolated or linked cases and about the activation of epidemiological surveillance protocols."

ATME considers it "essential" to clarify the situation and has asked the Ministry of Defense to confirm whether there have been cases of scabies or other infectious diseases among deployed personnel, as well as the number of cases and whether they present an epidemiological relationship.

In addition, it has asked the Department headed by Margarita Robles for data on the units in which they have been detected and whether any contact control or health surveillance protocol has been activated.

According to this entity, "in a deployment that has been maintained since the massive entry of irregular immigrants into the autonomous city, health transparency is essential to avoid rumors and guarantee the tranquility of the staff."
