Jeffries expressed concern about the anti-Russian sanctions bill

The head of the Democratic minority in the US House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, expressed concern about the new bill on anti-Russian sanctions.

Jeffries said the bill gives the administration powers to impose tariffs and sanctions that Democrats say could be abused.

WASHINGTON, September 1 - RIA Novosti. Democrats in the US House of Representatives believe that the new anti-Russian sanctions bill will provide the administration with opportunities for abuse, said legislative minority leader Hakeem Jeffries.

"I have serious concerns about this bill," Jeffries told reporters.

Several fellow lawmakers opposed the bill, Jeffries recalled. “The risk is that it (the document - ed.) gives the authority to impose tariffs and sanctions to Donald Trump and his administration, which we believe they will abuse,” said the head of the Democratic minority.

He added that he had not yet assessed the text in its entirety, but the faction would discuss the bill this week.

Earlier, the US Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill on new sanctions against Russia, which was developed with the participation of the late Senator Lindsey Graham (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation). The initiative provides for 100% duties against the five largest buyers of Russian energy and 500% on all imports from Russia to the United States.
