FT: England 4 - 2 Croatia

H By Henry Hanson

A thoroughly entertaining game ends in a convincing win for England.

It's their first ever World Cup victory over Croatia.

That game was won in the stanza after half-time, when Jude Bellingham scored England's third and Dominik Livakovic produced a string of remarkable saves.

90+6' Kane shows his defensive acumen

H By Henry Hanson

Harry Kane is back defending a corner, and is getting in the way of a Josko Gvardiol effort.

What can't this guy do?

90+3' Things petering out in Dallas

H By Henry Hanson

That Marcus Rashford goal has really taken the bite out of these closing exchanges.

But 37-year-old Ivan Perisic, all credit to him, is still busting a lung out there.

He's helping earn a corner as time slips away.

90' We move into six minutes of stoppage time as Kane looks a little ginger

H By Henry Hanson

Oh no, Harry Kane is down.

He's holding the back of his ankle.

Thankfully for England, their captain is back to his feet sooner rather than later and looks okay.

You can almost hear the nation's collective sigh of relief.

And cue ... PARTY TIME

A By Amanda Shalala

That should just about do it for England, and the fans are releasing the shackles and getting into full-on celebratory mode.

I am excited/nervous to see what they're like outside the stadium, hahaha. I'm just praying no beer showers please ...

Marcus Rashford seals it for England!

H By Henry Hanson

Marcus Rashford conjures a polished, cute little finish and this game is surely England's now.

Croatia is pushing high in search of an opportunity, and Bukayo Saka, only freshly onto the pitch and full of running, picks up the ball on half way.

The Arsenal wide man gets slightly fortunate on his way through a couple Croatian challenges, accelerates, and finds Rashford all alone on his way into the penalty area.

Rashford takes his time, stutters, and side-foots the ball back across Dominik Livakovic and into the back of the net.

Packed stadium

A By Amanda Shalala

The crowd figure is announced and it's 70,389, just a few hundred short of the official capacity here for the tournament.

And it's been a brilliant atmosphere, a constant soundscape of passion.

82' Chance England!

H By Henry Hanson

The substitutes combine for a lovely move down the right!

It's Morgan Rogers who slips in a lovely, deft little through ball and Djed Spence, only just arrived, races onto it.

He forces another low save from the superb Dominik Livakovic.

80' Substitutions for both sides

H By Henry Hanson

It's Jude Bellingham who makes way for England, the attacking midfielder clapping the Dallas crowd on his way off.

He's been a little quiet since that goal early in the half, but the Real Madrid man certainly won't mind.

He's replaced by fullback Djed Spence. We may see a change of shape here for England.

And forward Andrej Kramaric is on in place of Mario Pasalic for Croatia.

77' Chance Croatia!

H By Henry Hanson

And from nowhere, Croatia has a second wind!

Marco Pasalic, who has been lively since entering the game, is breaking down the right and forcing a sharp save from Jordan Pickford, who is down and low to his right.

75' Another test for Livakovic

H By Henry Hanson

Well, he has been exceptional today, Dominik Livakovic.

But things don't appear to be getting any easier.

Thie time, he's sold short by a back header from Marco Pasalic.

Marcus Rashford is racing onto it but Livakovic is out and timing his clearance.

72' Changes for England

H By Henry Hanson

It's a triple change for England.

Declan Rice, Noni Madueke and Anthony Gordon make way and Morgan Rogers, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford enter the fray.

Sheesh, not a bad triumvirate to have in reserve.

Maybe of slight concern for the Three Lions is the way Rice leaves the field.

He's looking a little dejected and appears to be limping a touch.

England with all the chances

A By Amanda Shalala

England has had 18 shots on goal compared to Croatia's 4. Croatia's only two on target, both resulting in goals.

And attacking possession in England's favour 49 per cent to 39 per cent.

Also, can I say excellent choice of hydration break banger blaring through the speakers here, a beautiful 70,000-person karaoke rendition of The Killers' Mr Brightside.

Yes, it's a cliche, but we LOVE it in Dallas!

It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss....

69' To the hydration station!

H By Henry Hanson

There are a few inviting holes opening up for England with Croatia now playing a back four.

Anthony Gordon is the last of the players to have a glimpse of goal - his volley is blocked.

Morgan Rogers readies himself to enter the game as we head to the hydration break.

67' England controlling the game as Croatia changes shape

H By Henry Hanson

The game is beginning to settle a touch after that flurry of English excitement at the start of the half.

The Three Lions are, for the most part, looking pretty composed in possession, as God Save the King echoes through the stands.

Meanwhile, we're seeing some substitutions.

Not long ago, Croatian legend Luka Modric made way for Mateo Kovacic.

And now, Luka Vuskovic makes way for Marco Pasalic, and Igor Matanovic comes on for goalscorer Petar Musa.

Looks like Croatia is moving to a back four with Pasalic coming into the midfield.

Livakovic is SUPERHUMAN!

A By Amanda Shalala

Some of the biggest cheers of the game have come for that spurt of inspired goalkeeping from Livakovic.

You can just feel his attitude of "nothing else is getting past me".

Absolutely breathless stuff.

I know Patrick Beach and Vozinha have had most of the goalkeeping headlines so far, but oh my goodness, that was phenomenal.

57' More Livakovic madness!

H By Henry Hanson

Dominik Livakovic has suddenly turned into prime Gigi Buffon.

The Croatian shot stopper comes out and beats away a corner, before getting down to turn away a sharp Harry Kane effort.

If Croatia do get back into this, the nation will have Livakovic to thank.

56' Dominik Livakovic with a wonderful string of saves

H By Henry Hanson

That was remarkable from teh Croatian goalkeeper.

First, he denies a Nico O'Reilly header from a corner, then he's down to save an Antony Gordon deflection from point blank range.

Exceptional stuff.

Open Questions

  • Will Declan Rice's slight limp affect future games?
  • How will England's substitutes perform in upcoming matches?

Norway's Viral Viking Row: The Story Behind the World Cup Fan Sensation

Ole Frøystad, nicknamed "Mr Row Row," invented Norway's viral Viking row chant, inspired by medieval history and a Norwegian football club's chant. The simple yet energetic chant involves sitting, drumming, pulling imaginary oars, and shouting "ro" (Norwegian for row), building to a frenzy. It has become a major fan sensation at the World Cup, with spontaneous renditions appearing globally and even players like Erling Haaland embracing it as "bigger than football."
