AGU entities defend the agency's actions after the PF report on Mendonça and Messias

Amid the clash with the PF (Federal Police), entities representing the careers of the AGU (Attorney General of the Union) issued a public note in defense of the body commanded by Jorge Messias and expressed concern about the accusations about the AGU's actions.

The document is released after a PF report recommended "monitoring and targeted collection" about the STF (Supreme Federal Court) minister André Mendonça and his relationship with the Union's attorney general, Jorge Messias.

The clash with the PF is not new. As Folha showed, the corporation has already shown dissatisfaction with Messias' stance in the processes surrounding the Master case and the investigations against Lulinha that are being processed in court.

In the note, the associations state that legal measures adopted by the AGU can be put up for debate and under legal criticism, but that the body's role should not be to endorse claims suggested by other bodies.

"What is not appropriate is to convert a divergence of legal strategy into an element of suspicion before knowledge and evaluation of the technical legal foundations that guided the institutional decision", says the note.

The document signed by public lawyers and prosecutors, who make up the careers of the AGU, says that the body's actions are guided by the laws and not by personal relationships, political affinities or circumstantial conveniences.

The accusations about the relationship between Messias and Mendonça placed in the report come after the STF minister openly acted in favor of the appointment of the Union's attorney general to the Supreme Court.

"There is a difference between investigating possible illegal acts committed by a lawyer and transforming the practice of law itself into a basis for placing him under suspicion", state the entities.
