Five people injured on Eurowings flight due to turbulence from Emirates plane

Five people were injured during a flight on board Eurowings when it encountered turbulence caused by an Emirates passenger jet flying past. This was reported by The Aviation Herald.

The incident occurred on May 30 on a flight from Rhodes, Greece, to Cologne, Germany. While climbing, the Airbus A320 with 157 passengers on board was struck by turbulence from another passenger aircraft en route from Dubai, UAE, to London Heathrow Airport, UK, 14 kilometers ahead.

Due to the strong shaking, the flight attendant flew up to the ceiling, and four passengers received minor injuries. The pilots immediately aborted the climb, and the A320 began to descend sharply, but continued on its way to the German air harbor. In Cologne, the victims were met by medical workers, treated on the spot, and then hospitalized. The aircraft remained on the ground for 4.5 hours and then took off for the next route.

According to Eurowings, the cause of the turbulence was wake vortices that form on the wings of large airliners. If the plane following the plane hits them, it can be rocked violently. In the worst case scenario, pilots may lose control.
