The Russian Embassy in Berlin responded to criticism of the closure of the German Consulate General

The Russian Embassy in Berlin expressed surprise at the reaction in Germany to the closure of the German Consulate General and the Goethe Institute, pointing out that these measures were a response to Berlin’s steps.

“The complaints of some German representatives, politicians, public figures and the media about the upcoming closure of the Consulate General of Germany in St. Petersburg and the branches of the Goethe Institute in Russia are surprising,” the embassy said in a statement on Telegram.

As the diplomatic mission added, German representatives continue to talk about “blatant injustice,” knowing full well that Russia’s actions are nothing more than a mirror response to Berlin’s unprecedented, unprovoked steps to destroy bilateral relations.

The embassy recalled that the reason for closing the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin were accusations against the Russian side of alleged involvement in the incident with a faulty drone found at Leipzig airport.

“No evidence, no arguments, only the usual reasoning in the style of “high-ly-like” and an unprecedentedly inappropriate reaction, to which, at the go-ahead of Berlin, the EU countries obediently joined,” the embassy said.
