Fourth Woman Dies in a Week from Post-C-Section Infections at Kota's NMCH

Pinki Mahawar, 30, died from post-C-section complications at NMCH, the fourth such death in a week. Her husband, Chandra Prakash, a daily wage laborer, expressed anguish over the delayed referral from JK Lon Hospital, where Pinki underwent an emergency C-section on May 7 after being admitted with a breech-positioned baby. Despite delivering a healthy baby, Pinki's condition deteriorated the next day due to a uterine infection, requiring a second surgery within 15 hours. The removed uterus was carelessly left in a box near her bed, further infuriating the family. Pinki was transferred to NMCH on Sunday around 8:30 PM when her condition worsened and died two hours after arrival. The incident sparked a protest at NMCH, with the family and Congress workers demanding accountability and refusing a postmortem. NMCH Principal Dr. Nilesh Jain attributed Pinki's death to her high-risk pregnancy status from the outset. A state government-formed high-level committee is investigating conditions at JK Lon Hospital. This death is part of a troubling trend, with three other women (Payal, 26, Jyoti Nayak, 19, and Priya Mahawar, 22) dying from similar complications in the past week, though hospital officials claim Priya's death was due to cardiac issues. Six other postpartum women remain critical at NMCH, heightening concerns over safety protocols in Kota's government hospitals.
