Man arrested on suspicion of attacking and trying to strangle his partner in Picos

The Civil Police of Piauí (PCPI) arrested, this Thursday (18), a man identified by the initials D.L.M., suspected of attacking his partner in Picos, in the Center-South of the state. The crime occurred on June 7th.

The arrest was made by the Police Station Specialized in Assistance to Women and Vulnerable Groups (DEAMGV) in Picos. The incident happened around 3:30 am, after the couple returned from a party.

The crime

According to the police, the victim, Keury Gardennia, was attacked with punches to various parts of the body, mainly to the face and head. The suspect is also being investigated for trying to strangle her.

On social media, Keury said that the argument started at the party, when he asked his partner to drink less. When they arrived home, she stated that she was attacked while she was lying down.

"The only thing I complained about at the party we were at was for him to cut down on the alcohol, because he was drinking too much. Then we went home, around 3am, I went to take a shower, went to bed, and until then he hadn't said or done anything. When I went to bed, he went in to take a shower, and when he came out, he came out upset. He came at me, throwing punches at my face and head", reported the victim.

Even though she was injured, the young woman fled to the street to ask for help. According to the report, the man tried to force her to return home and threatened to kill her. He also allegedly used a rock to intimidate her.

Family members found the victim bloodied, with a bruised face and swollen eyes. She received medical attention and then registered the incident, in addition to asking for protective measures. The forensic examination confirmed injuries to the eyes, mouth and neck.

Position of the victim and the police

Delegate Amanda Estevam informed that an investigation was opened to investigate the attacks and death threats.

Keury Gardennia said on social media that this was the first episode of aggression and stated that he does not intend to resume the relationship. "This is not something to be forgiven [...] No woman deserves this. He knows very well how much I loved him, how much I cared for him", he lamented.
