Why It Matters

A social media narrative suggests that Indian managers in the US exclusively hire individuals of Indian origin or those on H-1B visas. This narrative has been amplified by individuals like Texas whistleblower Sara Gonzales, who targets H-1B employers, and a lawsuit filed by a Chinese-American professor against Southern Methodist University, alleging favoritism towards Indian employees.

Immigration attorney Rahul Reddy says stereotyping Indian managers as only hiring Indians is wrong. He said his law firm does not have an Indian partner though he founded the company.

Immigration attorney Rahul Reddy said he has been witnessing the social media narrative that Indians in the US will only hire Indians, and H-1Bs, and said that he founded the Reddy-Neumann Brown PC law firm, but none of the lawyers in his company is Indian. The comments came as Texas whistleblower Sara Gonzales has been hunting down H-1B employers and knocking on the doors of Indian-origin hirers. Most of these are staffing companies that hire H-1Bs from India for other clients and hence their registered offices often have no employees but Gonzales, in her YouTube videos, cornered some hirers and showed that these hirers did not have all the answers. Amother news that fanned the 'Indians only hire Indians' narrative on social media was the update that a Chinese-American assistant professor, Dr Sean Wangm sued Southern Methodist University in Texas accusing head of the department Dr Hemang Desai of favoring only Indians. "Social media vigilantes are doing a lot of homework, which we like, before they are going after some of the people but the way they are projecting is like if there is an Indian manager, he will only hire Indians or H-1Bs. I founded my law firm but none of my partners is Indian," Reddy said during his weekly immigration update, along with Emily Neumann. Rahul Reddy founded the Reddy Neumann Brown PC in 1997. The present partners of the firm are Krystal Alanis, Rebecca Chen, Emilu Neumann, Steven Brown, Ryan Wilck Neumann said it is true that there is fraud in the H-1B program like in every other government scheme but that does not mean that the entire process is bad and everyone involved in this is a bad actor. "The US government declared that overall STEM skills are less and they encourage US citizens a lot to study STEM degrees. The demand is high and companies don't find enough US citizens in STEM. But a wrong picture is given on social media about H-1Bs and we want to correct that," Reddy said.
