The contest was a closely fought and tactical affair from the outset. Michael received an early Shido within the opening 30 seconds, while both judokas struggled to find a scoring move as they traded defensive exchanges.

Avtar came closest to breaking the deadlock late in regulation time when he managed to throw Michael onto his side. However, the effort did not earn him a score, and the Indian was handed a Shido as the bout headed into Golden Score.

The decisive moment arrived shortly after extra time began. Michael produced a brilliant throw to score an Ippon, ending the contest instantly and sealing his place in the quarterfinals, while Avtar's campaign came to an end.

India's Dinesh Kumar bowed out in the opening round of the men's 40km points race after narrowly missing out on qualification for the final at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

The Indian cyclist produced a spirited finish in Heat 2, picking up two points in each of the final two sprints to end the race with a total of four points.

Despite the late rally, it wasn't enough to keep his campaign alive. Dinesh finished 11th in the standings and failed to secure one of the qualifying spots for the final.

Around 90 seconds into Golden Score, the Indian executed a throw that earned her a Yuko after Wood landed on her side with her shoulder touching the mat, sealing a hard-fought victory and a place in the last eight.
