Statement from Iran to the USA about the Strait of Hormuz and the nuclear agreement

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Bekayi made statements regarding the USA and the Strait of Hormuz at a press conference.

Bekayi stated that the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the USA on June 17 was violated by the USA a few weeks later and said, "There is no provision in the memorandum of understanding referring to the 60-day period, and Iran never shapes its policies under pressure, ultimatums or time limits."

Stating that the Memorandum of Understanding stipulates a period of 60 days for negotiations on two issues, namely "the removal of sanctions" and "the nuclear issue", Bekayi stated that this period can be extended if an agreement is not reached. "Only a few weeks after the memorandum of understanding was signed, no talks were initiated due to its gross violation by the United States: As a result, the 60-day period issue has become completely meaningless," Bekayi said.

Stating that negotiations on a safe maritime transit route between Iran and Oman are continuing, Bekayi said, "The preparation of the maritime transit route plan with Oman takes time due to the security problems arising from the actions of the US and Israeli regime, the number of actors involved in the process and the difficulties caused by obstructive elements. This issue is complex in nature. The insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz, the region and the world is due to the illegal military actions of the US and Israeli regime."

Bekayi stated that the mechanism proposed for the Strait of Hormuz will aim to protect the interests of both Iran and Oman while maintaining commercial maritime transportation, and said, "This is the first time that a mechanism has been developed that will ensure the safe passage of commercial ships while protecting the sovereign rights of two coastal states. Despite the United States not fulfilling its commitments, intensive negotiations between Iran and Oman continue in earnest to finalize the joint effort and establish a safe mechanism that protects mutual interests."
