Israel intensifies its strikes in Lebanon despite the truce, three dead and 23 injured

The Israeli army intensified its strikes Friday evening in Lebanon, killing at least three people and wounding 23 in the south and east of the country, according to a provisional report from the Ministry of Health. Despite a truce with pro-Iranian Hezbollah, the ministry reported nighttime strikes on five localities, located in the southern regions of Tire and Nabatiyé, and in the Bekaa, in the east of the country.

These strikes come after Israel announced Thursday evening that it had taken control of the Ali Taher mountain ridge, which served as a strategic position for the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement in Nabatiyé. The army will now reinforce its positions there to “prevent the enemy from resuming positions in the area,” declared Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. Two young men were “targeted while riding a motorbike” in Nabatiyé, reported the National Information Agency (official Ani). A report that the ministry confirmed.

A targeted house

In Tyre, in the village of Rmadiyé, located more than ten kilometers from the border, one person was killed and fifteen others injured, including six rescuers, three women and two children in an Israeli strike, according to the ministry. This strike targeted a house, according to the Ani agency. Another also hit the east of the country, generally spared since the relative calm, injuring a Syrian in the west of the Bekaa, the ministry said.

Clashes have declined since June, following a protocol between the United States and Iran, alongside a framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. But Israel continues its sporadic strikes and bombings in the south where it continues to occupy a border strip of around ten kilometers.

Families returning to Nabatiyé thanks to the truce “are facing widespread destruction, the absence of basic services, persistent insecurity,” lamented Friday on X the UN humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza, after visiting the site. Hezbollah has dragged Lebanon into the regional war by carrying out strikes on Israel in support of Tehran since the beginning of March, provoking Israeli retaliations which have left more than 4,300 dead, according to the Lebanese authorities.
