Istat: inflation rises to 3.3% in August 2026

According to preliminary estimates, in August 2026 the national consumer price index for the entire community (Nic), including tobacco, recorded a change of +0.5% on a monthly basis and +3.3% on an annual basis (from +2.9% in the previous month). This was revealed by Istat by releasing the preliminary estimate on consumer prices in August.

"In August 2026, inflation rises to +3.3% (from +2.9% in July), supported by the trend in prices of energy goods (from +11.6% to +17.0%), which are still affected by international tensions", explains the national statistics institute.

In August the trend rate of change in the prices of the so-called 'shopping cart' (food, home and personal care goods) remained stable (at +1.0%), while that of high-frequency purchase products increased (from +3.4% to +4.3%).

The inflation acquired for 2026 (i.e. that which would occur in the year assuming that the index itself remains at the same level as the last monthly data available in the remaining part of the year) is equal to +2.9% for the general index and +1.9% for the underlying component.
