The head of Japan Airlines cuts his salary by 30% because of a drunken flight attendant

The head of a foreign airline will cut his salary by 30 percent for two months due to the drunkenness of his staff. This was reported by the portal Paddle Your Own Kanoo (PYOK).

Japan Airlines (JAL) President Mitsuko Tottori took such “punitive measures” regarding his pay and the salaries of other board members after an incident with a drunken flight attendant that occurred in Hiroshima on May 23.

On the eve of departure, the senior flight attendant spent the night at the hotel after a flight from Tokyo. In the evening, she met a colleague at a bar, with whom she drank two cans of beer and two glasses of white wine, then went to bed. In the morning, in her room, the woman took a self-test, which showed 0.23 milligrams of alcohol in her blood - this exceeded the limit set by the air carrier.

Hoping that the alcohol would “dissipate,” the flight attendant went to the airport. However, during a pre-flight inspection, the test showed 0.11 milligrams of alcohol, which was also above the legal limit for flights. The flight attendant was suspended from work. The company had to find a replacement for her, as a result of which the flight was delayed by 40 minutes.

It is clarified that the Japanese Ministry of Transport has ordered JAL to submit a report on how it intends to prevent the recurrence of such incidents by July 17.
