Tiger mosquito in Guimaraes: No risk of infection, but preventive measures needed

The presence of the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) has been confirmed in Guimarães. Although the analysis of the captured specimens did not detect disease-causing microorganisms, the authorities are appealing for the elimination of water containers to prevent the spread of the insect. The tiger mosquito has already established itself in 29 Portuguese municipalities. It was initially observed in Braga in the autumn. A team has been established in Guimarães to monitor potential breeding sites for the mosquito.
