Konstantinos Karetsas has circulatory problems after the win against Villarreal

Konstantinos Karetsas' circulatory problems and the resulting hospital stay were the dominant topic in the Dortmund stadium after the 3-2 win against FC Villarreal. “That obviously dampens the mood significantly,” said BVB sports director Ole Book.

The 40-year-old didn't have any real new information about the Greek's health. “We obviously hope that it gets better very, very quickly and that it’s nothing serious,” said Book. “But right now, right after the game, we don’t have any new information yet.”

Ricken: Problems “arose out of nowhere”

Karetsas suddenly lay down on the grass in the middle of the first half. The offensive newcomer had to be taken off the pitch on a stretcher. The 18-year-old is doing well under the circumstances and is on the way to the hospital for further examinations, BVB announced during the game.

Sports director Lars Ricken spoke of circulatory problems “out of nowhere.” The former top footballer added: “There was no indication.” We now have to wait and see “what the next few days will reveal,” he said, with a view to further investigations.

Book: “That affected us all”

Book described the situation he experienced in the stands: “We were all pretty upset and scared, worried about the boy and now hope that everything is relatively good. That's the most important thing."

BVB has to be without Karetsas' compatriot Giannis Konstantelias, who also only arrived this summer, for a longer period of time due to a torn cruciate ligament. “Obviously it wasn’t a good feeling when a player who brings in a lot of creativity had to leave the field again,” said Book. “That affected all of us.”
