45' VAR GIVES THE GOAL!
By Simon Smale
Delight in the stadium!
It was such a tight call - I can see why the goal has been given but it's hard to see how Folarin Balogun was not affecting play when he raced towards the falling ball.
The fact is he didn't get a touch on the ball or the keeper though, who was looking up and would only have seen him the the periphery of his vision
The goal has been given and the US leads 2-0.
43' US have the ball in the net! But it's called offside!
By Simon Smale
The US won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area.
It was pulled back and a shot came in from the edge of the penalty area.
The shot came in and looped up.
The ball is headed in by Alex Freeman.
But offside is called.
But was he offside? I don't think he was.
Folarin Balogun was in an offside position but he didn't get the touch.
He did run towards Beach though - but he didn't make a touch on the ball or the keeper.
VAR will look.
You could hear that head knock inside the ground

I am sitting in the third tier of Seattle Stadium, and the sounds of Paul Okon-Engstler and Alex Freeman colliding.
A large round of applause for both players as they get to their feet.
39' Bad head clash
By Simon Smale
Nasty one, Paul Okon-Engstler is down after colliding with Freeman.
Nasty head clash that, you'd think they'd both have to be taken off after that - concussion needs to be taken seriously and football does not do a good job with this.
38' Socceroos so tentative at the back
By Simon Smale
My word, the US get a cross into the box that Souttar does well to deal with.
But then the Socceroos dally on the ball, Paul Okon-Engstler just standing and watching when he should have put his laces through it.
The US can't get their act together on that occasion, but goodness me that is poor from the Socceroos.
36' US are showboating
By Simon Smale
Flicks, tricks, turns and spins, the US team are having a party at the Socceroos expense here.
Folarin Balogun managed three turns inside the penalty area then to get some space.
The Socceroos are second best at the moment.
US blueprint working to a tee
By Simon Smale
Photocopy of what USA did with Paraguay, beating us with speed and strength... that does not fade as the match goes on.
- Big Ben
The good thing is that it's only 1-0 and, despite being behind, the Beach hasn't had to do much in the way of saves at all.
33' Yellow card Alessandro Circati
By Simon Smale
Naughty from Alessandro Circati, who stretched and raked his studs down the calf of a US attacker as he tried to race into the penalty area.
Good job he was stretching and couldn't get much force on that or the referee might have been told to reconsider a yellow card there.
He argues that he was being held by another US player, but the referee waves away his concerns.
31' Socceroos struggling at corners
By Simon Smale
Incredibly, despite the height and despite the accepted dominance of the three Socceroos centre backs, there have been far too many free headers for US players.
That corner provided another one, Richards getting free and just missing getting his coiffured head onto it.
Rushed and nervy, Australia needs a spark

The decision to play Nishan Velupillay and Mathew Leckie was pragmatic. Set a deep block and let the USA attack.
It did not pay off in that opening stanza.
The Socceroos couldn't hold possession, and found themselves under immense pressure in their defensive half.
That, and some questionable decision making made life hard.
Hopefully Tony Popovic has pulled the hydration special he has so many times before.
28' Back underway, USA on the attack
By Simon Smale
Tillman races off down the left side of the pitch and delivers a deep cross.
For some reason the Socceroos try to keep that in - but it's already out of play.
24' Ad break time
By Simon Smale
Time for the Socceroos to reassess and reset at the drinks break.
Tony Popovic has his work cut out in this three minute spell - we've seen momentum change after these breaks a few times this tournament and now is the time that the Socceroos need to get to grips with this game.
24' Another corner Socceroos
By Simon Smale
Harry Souttar is being manhandled in the penalty area - no mean feat to be honest.
He still gets away from his man but his off-balance header is weak and fended behind for another corner.
This delivery from the left is not so good - and the referee spots a foul in the box.
23' Great chance Socceroos
By Simon Smale
Mat Leckie with a really good low cross after a spell of possession.
He aims it towards Toure who is blocked just as he tries to get the shot away, sliding in at the near post.
Good chance, and a corner.
21' DOUBLE CHANCE USA!
By Simon Smale
Folarin Balogun latches onto a long ball but then a heavy touch costs him as Beach gathers.
Then the Socceroos give the ball away playing out the back again!
Balogun this time is blocked and the ball is hammered up field.
This is rubbish from the Socceroos - they look nervous and need to get the ball out of their area.
20' Great chance USA
By Simon Smale
Sergiño Dest with a magical flick down the right side and that gives the US a chance to get the ball into the box.
Nishan Velupillay wins it back but then gives it away again and it's only Mo Toure tracking back who gets himself in the passing lane right on the edge of the area to interrupt the US rhythm.
18' USA challenging the Socceroos passing out from the back
By Simon Smale
That was too risky from the Socceroos, the USA team pushing their way into the passing lanes and creating a chance out of Socceroos errors.
Not sure about all this passing out from the back - this feels like a game where getting it launched would be best.
That being said, the USA are so comfortable in possession up the field and Mo Toure is a lonely man chasing his markers.
17' Yellow card to Bos
By Simon Smale
Jordan Bos puts his hand in the face of Sergiño Dest and gets booked for it.
Silly foul, need to keep your hands down there.
The free kick is swept in but headed over the bar by the USA.
Open Questions
- Will the Socceroos be able to make a comeback?
- How will the head injury affect the players involved?
- Will the Socceroos' defensive strategy change?
