Response from Lebanese President Aoun to allegations of negotiations with Israel

Aoun visited the region a day after Israel's large-scale attacks to destroy the tunnels in the Ali al-Tahir Hills of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, causing a 4.1 magnitude earthquake.

Aoun, who went to the region with a high-level delegation consisting of the Lebanese Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Rudolf Heykel and the heads of the police force, visited Nabatiyeh, at the center of the Israeli attacks, and the West Zavtar town connected to it.

According to the Lebanese news agency NNA, Aoun, in his statement here, talked about the negotiations that are claimed to be held between Israel and Lebanon in Rome, the capital of Italy, on September 15-16.

Aoun said, "There are currently no new negotiations with Israel." he said.

The Lebanese President said that "the withdrawal of the Israeli army, the return of Lebanese prisoners and displaced persons, and reconstruction are principles that they are determined to implement."

Avn noted that he made this visit to show that the state stands by the people of southern Lebanon.

The President's visit to the region is important because it comes after the Israeli army's major attack on the Ali al-Tahir Heights.

Yesterday, Israel blew up the tunnels that it claimed belonged to Hezbollah in the Ali et-Tahir Hills, using 1,100 tons of explosives. After the explosions that caused a 4.1 magnitude earthquake, Israel withdrew from Ali et-Tahir to the Shakif Castle area.

However, Israel announced that the Yellow Line route had not changed and that the army would continue its attacks on the hills.

The President's statement regarding the negotiations also clarified the allegations in the press. Because Israeli state television had claimed on September 10 that the 8th round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel would be held in Italy on September 15-16.

Axios reporter Barak Ravid, in his post on the social media platform of US-based company X, claimed that the negotiation round planned to be held next week has been postponed.
