Marine Tondelier in the campaign and about to give birth: “This baby will be my priority”

The environmentalist presidential candidate Marine Tondelier, who is due to give birth in the coming days, “will obviously give priority to her baby” but “does not intend to stop her campaign for four months,” she said on Wednesday.

“As long as the baby is not here, as long as you have not given birth, as long as you have not learned about this baby, to see how he is doing physically, psychologically, it is difficult to plan,” admitted Marine Tondelier, eight and a half months pregnant, on France 2.

“Even in a presidential campaign, this baby will be my priority, as long as he needs to be secured. But I don't plan to leave for four months. I will come back in great shape, more determined than ever, and during my absence there is a very united team who will get the job done,” she assured.

If Marine Tondelier, who “has not said her last word” on her desire to unite the left, does not go through with her campaign, it will be for reasons of political strategy: environmentalists must still decide whether they want to maintain an autonomous candidacy, rally around Jean-Luc Mélenchon or a social-democratic candidacy.

The environmentalist candidate, 40, must present on Wednesday “a booklet on reproductive health”, which she wants to make “a campaign issue”. “There are subjects which are omnipresent in the daily lives of the French and which we never talk about in politics. I did it with loneliness, I did it with the well-being of children and here I assume to do it on reproductive health,” she explained.
