"Every time I tried to pull away, every time I tried to try and get out of even Michigan, he always had a story, always had a way to pull me in and making me feel that I couldn't leave him because he was so miserable without me," she said.
In a statement issued through her attorneys after the sentencing, Shiver said the punishment did "not reflect the harm done to me or the objective evidence in this case".
