Palio di Siena postponed until tomorrow due to bad weather

New postponement for the Palio di Siena due to bad weather. Like yesterday, the green flag was once again displayed on the three-lancet windows of the public building, signaling the definitive decision to postpone the career dedicated to the Madonna Assunta. Today's rain wetted the tuff in Piazza del Campo, making the track unusable for the safety of the horses. The Palio di Siena is postponed until tomorrow. The last double postponement dates back to July 2024.

Yesterday's storm had made the tuff impassable, forcing the postponement until today. And after a night and a morning of work by the Municipality workers to fix the track in Piazza del Campo, where the horses race, a new storm broke out with consequent risk of further postponement to protect the safety of jockeys and horses.

At this point the first firecracker shot is expected at 3pm tomorrow 18 August, followed by the second warning at 3.30pm. At 4.10pm the clearing of the track will begin, necessary to allow the parade of the mounted Carabinieri squad at 4.45pm. The historic procession is scheduled to enter Piazza del Campo at 4.50pm. The day will then come to life at 7pm, when the horses will leave the Podestà courtyard to finally start their careers. Access to the square will also be regulated: from 4pm to 6pm it will be possible to enter Piazza del Campo, until the maximum number allowed is reached, exclusively from via Dupré. Ten districts are competing for the Palio dell'Assunta: Selva, Chiocciola, Oca, Nicchio, Lupa, Istrice, Torre, Aquila, Onda and Giraffa.
