Pensioner on Mobility Scooter Causes Major Crash at German Cycling Race

The woman collided with 17-year-old rider Paul Vriesman, who miraculously avoided a serious injury despite being flipped upside down as a result of the crash.

An elderly woman on a mobility scooter has caused a frightening crash during a cycling race in Germany after riding into the path of the competitors.

The incident occurred during the LVV Saarland Trofeo, a junior multi-day race held annually in Germany.

Paul Vriesman, 17, was riding during the fourth and final stage of the race when he made contact with the pensioner.

"Nasty crash but it looks like I got away with it relatively well and with no major injuries," Vriesman said on his personal Instagram account.

"Not the way I was hoping to finish my first week back to racing after a few months of rehab though.

"I made some big steps this week towards coming back to my old form.

"Sad to have to DNF this Saarland Trofeo this way due to an old lady who was just living in her own world."

Vriesman's collision with the pensioner's scooter caused several of his competitors to take a tumble due to the tight nature of the course.

It is unclear whether the woman involved sustained any serious injuries as a result of the collision.
