Residential building collapses in São Bernardo do Campo and leaves five injured

A residential building, in São Bernardo do Campo, in Greater São Paulo, collapsed this Saturday (15) and left five people under the rubble – including a 15-year-old teenager.

Two families lived there, totaling eight residents.

The injured were removed alive from the scene of the accident and taken to two hospitals in the region. The building is on Jorge Amado Street, in the Jardim Calux neighborhood.

Two people have already been discharged. The rest are stable and under medical care.

The Fire Department arrived at the scene of the incident at 6am. It was raining heavily in the region. Even so, the causes of the collapse are still unknown. The city of São Bernardo do Campo reported that, as a preventive measure, it closed three neighboring properties. As a result, twenty people were left homeless and will receive assistance from the municipality, being sent to nearby hotels.

A 21-year-old girl, also rescued, suffered trauma to her face.
