Princess of Wales Returns to International Stage with Trip to Reggio Emilia

The Princess of Wales will step back onto the international stage with a trip to Reggio Emilia, Italy, marking her first official overseas visit since recovering from cancer. This trip focuses on her early years education campaign, aiming to make it a "global mission." The Princess, who spent part of her gap year in Florence, will learn about the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasizes relationships and play-based learning. Accompanied by Christian Guy, Executive Director of the Centre for Early Childhood, she will meet educators, parents, and children. This visit is seen as a significant step in her return to full royal duties and her commitment to early childhood development, an issue she has championed for decades. The trip may draw large crowds, given the public's enduring fascination with the Princess. Her last overseas trip was to Boston with Prince William in December 2022, before her cancer diagnosis and subsequent remission announced in January 2025.

The Princess is "energised" about the trip, which could be the first of several to explore global models of early childhood education. Her Centre for Early Childhood, launched in 2021, explores how adult issues like addiction and mental health have roots in early childhood. The Reggio Emilia approach, to be showcased, focuses on child-led learning and community involvement.
