The Polish army verified the radar signal caused by a large flock of birds, there was no threat

The Polish army deployed Mi-24 armed helicopters to verify information after a large flock of birds activated radar and air defense alarms.

"Due to suspicion of a strange object entering the airspace from the direction of Belarus, the Air Force Operations Center is conducting verification activities. An armed helicopter has been dispatched to the scene to verify data from the radar system," the Polish Army Operations Command announced on September 6.

The agency ruled out the possibility that the radar signal originated from natural phenomena or other abnormalities, adding that it had not recorded any long-range Russian attack activities against Ukraine in the past.

Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goryszewski, spokesman for the Polish Army Operations Command, said the aircraft dispatched to the scene was a Mi-24 armed helicopter. Aviation activities in some areas in Poland are also limited to avoid hindering air force operations, and fighters also switch to a high state of combat readiness.

An hour after the initial announcement, the Polish Army Operations Command said the signal recorded by radar was not related to airspace violation, the cause was a large flock of birds flying over the area and recorded by surveillance systems. "There is no threat to Polish airspace," the agency stated.

Since the outbreak of the conflict, Russian and Ukrainian weapons have flown into Polish airspace several times. Mostly Russian cruise missiles aimed at western Ukraine, the projectiles often fly over Polish airspace for a short time to reach their targets.

The most serious incident occurred in November 2022, when a Ukrainian S-300 air defense missile flew across the border and fell in a village on Polish territory, killing two people. Poland then regularly activated its air defense system and deployed fighters to be ready to respond when Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine.

Most recently, a missile flew nearly 100 km deep into Polish territory on July 30, crashing into an open area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in Lublin province. Polish officials said this was a Russian Kh-101 long-range cruise missile, but confirmed there was no reason to suggest it was targeting the country.
