Pisa airport main runway reopened, airport is back in operation

The main runway of Pisa airport was reopened at 3pm and the airport was fully operational again. Even the heavy delays on arriving and departing flights are gradually disappearing. The urgent repair was due to a depression which, explained the Air Force, "occurred on a small and lateral portion of the runway for which it was necessary to restore the asphalt with the transfer of flights to the subsidiary runway, thus ensuring that operations, although slowed down at the airport, were never suspended". Meanwhile, Filt Cgil, in a note, explains that "the deterioration of the asphalt of the runway, very similar to a fault that already occurred last week, has plunged the structure back into chaos and once again the airport workers found themselves alone in managing a very serious emergency on the front line, without any organizational strengthening on the part of the companies involved". The chaos occurred on a day of departure for the first wave of the summer holidays, adds Filt Cgil, with "thousands of travelers crowded together in the boarding area, at the security gates and at the arrivals terminal due to delayed or canceled flights and in this scenario of total abandonment, there were moments of strong tension, resulting in unjustified episodes of exasperation to the detriment of the workers and airport operators, the only ones present to put the face."
