MOSCOW, May 25. /TASS/. The Russian energy system is implementing pilot units for construction of energy storage units and their capacity will reach 600 MW over the year, department director at the Russian Energy Ministry Andrey Maksimov said.

"Russia is currently implementing storage system to increase the reliability in supplies of energy received from renewable energy sources. We will implement the first projects during the time soon, providing for installation of 600 MW storage units in the south and in the east of the country," Maksimov said, cited by the Energy Ministry.

Deputy Energy Minister Pyotr Konyushenko told TASS in the interview earlier that the ministry would consider an option of building energy storage systems in the Primorsky Region with the capacity of about 250 MW to provide the region with electric power. Deputy Energy Minister Evgeny Grabchak told TASS in May that the ministry expects additional energy storage systems with the total capacity of 100 MW to appear in South Russia during the year or by the end of 2026.

The pilot project on construction of 250 MW energy storage units is already being implemented in South Russia. Systems may be launched without any delays since July 1 of this year.
