Santagada wins T. von Zastrow Mares Prize in Iffezheim

The four-year-old mare Santagada secured victory in the T. von Zastrow Mare Prize, worth 70,000 euros, at the racecourse in Iffezheim. In front of 12,500 spectators, the winner, ridden by Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, decided an exciting finish narrowly in her favor and relegated the Frenchwoman Light the Ghost (Marvin Grandin) and Innora (Leon Wolff) to the places in the field of nine participants.

Only late in the home straight did jockey Murzabayev find the decisive gap with Santagada. “I died 1,000 deaths,” said owner Helmut von Finck after the race, “fortunately the gap was still open.”

The mare used this to achieve her eighth career victory in her 15th start and increase her career winnings to 280,830 euros. Peter Schiergen trains Santagada in Cologne.
