Sanxenxo prepares the largest omelet in the world with 17,000 eggs and distributes it for charity

Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) made the largest omelette this Saturday in front of thousands of attendees. The dish, cooked by the company El Huevo de la Abuela, included 17,000 eggs, 1,700 kilos of potatoes, 300 kilos of onion, 300 liters of oil and 30 kilos of salt.

As the Sanxenxo City Council has reported in a message on social networks, thousands of people came to see the preparation of the omelette, on a six-meter diameter frying pan and the participation of 72 people.

The City Council stated that one of the most notable moments was "the turning of the tortilla", for which they had to use a 75-ton crane. An operation "of enormous precision that was completed successfully."

Once the dish was finished, at 2:15 p.m., the distribution of the 10,000 portions began - with and without onion - at a price of three euros each. The money raised from sales goes to charity. This gastronomic challenge is framed in the activities linked to the Onion Fair and the local Santa Rosalía celebrations.
