The 3rd sergeant of the Piauí Military Police (PMPI) José Arnobio Farias Cardoso died on Friday (14) after being attacked and shot when approaching a couple in front of a condominium in Parnaíba. Lucas da Silva Oliveira, suspected of the crime, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday (16) after surrendering to the Civil Police.
The crime was recorded by a security camera. The woman who appears in the images is the suspect's companion and was arrested on Friday. However, the court granted her provisional freedom on Saturday (15), using an electronic ankle bracelet.
A security camera recorded the incident. The images show the sergeant in a white car and a couple and a child on a motorcycle. The vehicles collide on the same street, the occupants of the motorcycle fall and then the attack takes place, which ends with the death of the police officer.
In the video it is possible to see that the sergeant gets out of the car and then the man who was on the motorcycle approaches from behind and hits him with a helmet. The officer falls to the ground and is hit again with at least three other blows and punches.
According to delegate Abimael Silva, from the Piauí Civil Police, the criminal took the police officer's gun after attacking him and shot the sergeant in the head. Afterwards, it is possible to see in the images that the suspect flees on foot.
In the images, it is possible to see that the woman who was on the motorcycle leaves the area with the child, in the opposite direction.
When contacted, PMPI reported that Sergeant Arnobio worked in the corporation's intelligence sector.
The main suspect is Lucas da Silva Oliveira, known as "Lucas Camaleão". According to the Civil Police, Lucas is part of a criminal faction, has a criminal record and at least one outstanding arrest warrant.
According to the Civil Police, he had fled from a police approach before committing the crime.
To g1, delegate Ayslan Magalhães, head of the 1st and 2nd Drug Trafficking Division of Parnaíba, reported that a police team went to Lucas's house, this Friday, after receiving information that he was in possession of narcotics.
The suspect was located and arrested after around 40 hours of searching in the coastal region of Piauí. According to Major Valdeci Galeno, he was hiding in the house of a man identified as an accomplice and handed himself in to the Civil Police in the presence of a lawyer. Afterwards, he was taken to the Parnaíba Flagrantes Center.
According to the police, the woman who appears in the images with a child on her lap is Iara Maria Lima, 24 years old. She was arrested on Friday (14), but the court granted her provisional release on Saturday (15), using an electronic ankle bracelet.
According to Major Galeno, commander of the 27th Military Police Battalion (27th BPM), the woman had help from an accomplice to hide after the crime.
After the sergeant's death, civil and military police teams began a series of investigations on the coast of Piauí.
Three people who allegedly helped the suspect escape were killed in clashes with the civil and military police. According to Commander Galeno, the first death occurred during an operation carried out at around 7pm on Friday (14), in Bairro Santa Luzia, in a location identified as one of Lucas' possible hiding places.
According to the major, in the early hours of Saturday (15), the police carried out a new operation in Luís Correia, at another point identified as a possible hiding place for Lucas. According to the PM, upon arriving at the scene, the police were also greeted by gunfire. During the confrontation, two men were shot.
The two were rescued and taken to medical care, but they did not survive their injuries and died.
A woman identified as responsible for the location, identified by the name “Carol”, was arrested during the operation. Two other people were arrested, according to the commander.
Galeno also highlighted that firearms, including a submachine gun, were seized in police actions.
The Civil Police the participation of each suspect located and the possible participation of other people. The team is investigating the possible relationship with drug trafficking and what still needs to be clarified about the dynamics of the crime.
Police are still looking for the sergeant's gun.
