Seven-year-old boy dies after brick column collapses during Dahi Handi celebration in Mumbai

A seven-year-old boy died after a brick column collapsed on him during a local Dahi Handi celebration in Malad West on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The incident was reported around 3.01pm at Ekta Welfare Society in Chikuwadi, Malvani, where a group of children were celebrating Dahi Handi on their own. According to civic officials, the rope used for the celebration had been tied to a tree and a brick column supporting a ground-floor structure.

While the children were attempting to break the handi, the column gave way and fell on the boy, identified as Rudra Kadam, 7, causing a serious head injury. The injured child was immediately rushed to Malvani General Hospital for treatment. However, hospital authorities later informed officials that Rudra was declared brought dead. Ward staff and police were mobilised after the incident. The incident occurred at Room No. 23, Ekta Welfare Society, Chikuwadi, Malvani, Marve Road, Malad West.
