Why It Matters

Solos has released a new version of its AirGo smart glasses, the A6, which are lighter and lack cameras compared to previous models. The company also announced privacy accessories for its older V2 model.

Solos announced a new version of its AirGo smart glasses, one that forgoes cameras for a sleeker design and an AI assistant that relies on voice interactions.

Last year’s AirGo A5 weighed 36 to 40 grams depending on the frame style, but the new AirGo A6 weigh around 19 grams. Part of the weight savings comes from thinner temple arms housing speakers, batteries, and other electronics. For comparison, the new Meta Glasses announced last month weigh around 54 to nearly 60 grams depending on the style.

Pricing and availability for the new AirGo A6 hasn’t been finalized yet, but the smart glasses will support “full prescription lens compatibility” and come in multiple styles including transparent options revealing the electronics inside.

The glasses come with a collection of hands-free AI-powered features including an assistant that can answer questions through voice commands, real-time translations, and calendar reminders. With speakers positioned behind your ears, the AirGo A6 can also be used to listen to music or take calls while you’re still able to hear what’s going on around you.

Alongside the new A6, Solo also announced new privacy-focused accessories for its AirGo V2 smart glasses that debuted last year. These include $39 transparent, non-powered replacement temples in various colors and a clip-on privacy shield that physically blocks the V2’s camera from seeing anything. For $49, the privacy shield is bundled with clip-on sunglasses that add UV protection and glare reduction, but you can get all the privacy accessories in a $79 bundle.

AI is Supercharging the Race for General-Purpose Robots

Advances in AI, particularly reinforcement learning and large foundation models, are accelerating the development of general-purpose robots capable of performing diverse tasks independently in complex environments. While humanoid robots attract investment, other forms may prove more practical. Companies like Boston Dynamics and Agility Robotics are deploying specialized robots and working towards more adaptable machines for warehouses and potentially homes.
